I am interested in participating in your event, however, I am inexperienced in backcountry riding. Do you have any suggestions? Thank-you.

    • 1. Know how to fix your bike. In case of a mechanical you want to be able to get your bike operating so that you can get back to civilization. This includes flats/tire slices, chain breakages, derailleur hanger replacement, tacoed wheel repair – at a minimum.
      2. Carry the equipment needed to do the repairs you might need.Gearies, bring a replaceable derailleur hanger – relatively cheap, light, and can save your ride.
      3. Understand your nutrition/water needs on long rides and carry sufficient food and water(or water purifier).
      4. Ride – a lot. The more “situations” you experience, the more you can determine if you have the ability to handle being out on your own.

Backcountry riding is mostly about being able to handle any kind of situation that comes up in such a way that you don’t have to walk many miles out or get stuck in the middle of nowhere at night. It is a little McGuyver, a little boy scout, and a lot of experience.

That being said, this is probably a good ride to start on. There are bail points and you are usually no more than a mile from I-17 at any point.

  2. Any dates set for this years Kentucky camp & black canyon trail rides?

    Cheers

  3. Where is the sign up?
