We will be doing a different route this year, for cue sheets, check out Google Group. We will be using a route through Chiva Falls this year, before catching the Arizona Trail back to Milagrosa, and back to McDonald Park. Maps will be available at the race otherwise check the Google Group for the latest GPX file.

Road Portion of the Race: Directions from McDonald Park

Turn left outside the park in order to head south on Harrison toward Catalina Highway. The distance is a little over 1 mile. At the stop sign turn left again to begin the monumental climb up to Palisades (which will have water and is exactly 1/2 of the road section). The Catalina Highway will meander through Molina Basin, Prison Camp, Windy Point, etc.. before entering Palisades Ranger Station area. This is your turn around section. You will see a bathroom on the right side of the road in a parking lot. Here is the turn around point of the race. Refill any bottles needed or just simply turn around in the parking lot, check for traffic, and speed to the finish line at McDonald Park.
Cue sheets and GPX file are on the Google Group.

This might be a stupid question, but do people transition onto they’re road bikes for the road portion of the race or stay on they’re mtn bikes?
Thanks

Road bikes are used for the second half of the race, but you can always use a mountain bike. Nobody has ever tried doing the road portion with a mountain bike.

How should I interpret “self-supportive”? Does that mean that there is no support provided by the race promoters? Can I receive assistance from anyone along the course, such as water or food drops from friends?
rockyroad5050 // August 5, 2009 at 5:35 pm |
There is no support form the racer promoters or outside support. Water and food drops are not allowed to allow a level playing field for all racers.
